Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How long is a session?

An initial session is typically60 mins. Each subsequent session is 50mins.

Do I need to bring anything for my first session?

If you are having a face-to-face session I recommend you bring your GP referral (if it has not been emailed already). In order to access Medicare rebates after your session bring your bank card (not credit card). Other than those things just bring yourself!

How do I make an appointment?

To make an appointment email or call us (it’s that simple!) Contact details can be found under the “Contact” tab. You can self-refer (and pay privately) or your doctor can refer you which will mean you are eligible for a Mental Health Treatment Plan. For further information about the cost check the “Fees” tab.

What is a Mental Health Treatment Plan?

A Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) or Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) is a care plan for someone who is going through mental health issues. It is developed in collaboration with your doctor and includes a referral to an expert like a psychologist.

What should I expect in my first session?

An initial session normally entails gathering history and understanding the problem or the reason you have chosen to access psychology. The psychologist may ask you to fill out some questionnaire/s, ask questions and collaboratively develop goals for therapy.

What if I don’t have a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan?

It’s okay if you do not have a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan! You can still access psychology session and pay privately.

How many sessions will I need to attend?

The number of sessions you'll need to attend depends on various factors, including the nature and severity of your concerns, your goals for therapy, and your progress over time. Some clients may find relief and achieve their goals in a few sessions, while others may benefit from longer-term therapy to address complex or longstanding issues. Your psychologist will work collaboratively with you to develop a treatment plan tailored to your needs and preferences.

What should I do if I'm in crisis or need urgent help?

Mancuveni Psychology does not provide crisis care. If you're in crisis or need urgent help, it's important to seek immediate support. You can contact emergency services by dialing 000 (Australia-wide) or visiting your nearest hospital emergency department. Alternatively, you can call Lifeline on 13 11 14 or the Suicide Call Back Service on 1300 659 467 for confidential crisis support and counselling.
